Attorney David G. Pribyl of the law firm Salvi, Schostok & Pritchard P.C., announced in October a 3 million dollar settlement reached on behalf of the family of a child injured at birth.
On July 17, 1997, the Plaintiff, a 23 year-old woman from Peoria, Illinois, was admitted to Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria as an obstetrical patient. Mr. Pribyl alleged that the mother's doctor waited too long to perform a c-section after clear signs of a dysfunctional labor pattern and fetal distress. As a result, the infant was unable to receive a sufficient level of oxygen and has developed learning disabilities and some impaired motor function. The family further alleged the doctor failed to adequately interpret the fetal monitor strips and the nurses failed to recognize problems during the labor process.
