Largest Reported Settlement in Sangamon County

Michael P. Schostok successfully obtained a $2.5 million medical malpractice settlement on behalf of a child permanently injured at birth.

Lori Finch delivered her daughter, Ambra on September 6, 1994 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, Illinois. Attorneys alleged that the Hospital’s medical staff failed to properly evaluate her labor condition, failed to communicate with her doctor and failed to take intervention steps to relieve the fetal distress. As a result, Ambra sustained severe, permanent and irreversible brain damage.

The Honorable Judge Patrick Kelley of the Circuit Court of the Seventh Judicial Circuit in Sangamon County approved the award earlier this year (Case No. 99 L 0128). According to the Cook County Jury Verdict and Settlement Reporter, this is the largest medical malpractice settlement in Sangamon County involving a brain damaged infant.
