All application forms, essays and photos must be submitted to firstname.lastname@example.org by Monday, June 9, 2014.
The essays will initially be judged by Salvi, Schostok & Pritchard P.C. The judging will be based on accuracy, grammar, style and originality. Judges will look for clear, original essays that are logically organized and well-supported.
The judges will select the top eight essays based on the above criteria. These essays will be divided into two groups:
Our finalists will be notified of their selection on Friday, May 1, 2015.
On TBD, all eight winners will be announced to the public, and our prizes will be distributed.
Why do I need to submit a digital photo of myself?
We would like to run students’ photos and their brief bio information when we announce the winners.
Do I need to mail or email my essay?
Do not mail your essay. If you do so, it will not be accepted. Instead, please send your signed and scanned application form, a readable copy of your essay and a digital photo of yourself to email@example.com with “Scholarship Essay Contest” in the subject line of your e-mail.
Can I include references for my essay with hyperlinks to the respective sources?
If you have citations, you may include them without a link just as you would do for a standard print citation. You may choose to link to those sources as well. Please note that we reserve the right to remove links to any websites that we deem inappropriate or irrelevant.
Must I have any personal experience to write on a topic?
No. However, we have noted that students may choose to share their own experiences in the essay if they believe it is relevant the topic.
May I include accounts of people I know who have first-hand experience with distracted driving?
Yes. However, you must first obtain written permission from the person if you use the name of a real person or any of their personal identifying information.
What type of permission?
We cannot provide legal advice. You are solely responsible for the appropriateness or legality of your essay. However, as a courtesy, we remind you that if you are writing about other people, especially concerning their personal health challenges, and you place that information on the Internet, privacy laws may apply. Please speak to a lawyer if you are unsure what you must do.
Can the firm use my essay?
Yes. Salvi, Schostok & Pritchard P.C., reserves the right to use, reproduce or distribute as it sees fit in its sole discretion any submissions that the firm receives in this contest, although the student retains the right to use the essay for his or her own purposes as well.
Also, by accepting a prize, winners grant to Salvi, Schostok & Pritchard P.C., the right to edit, publish, copy, display and otherwise use the essay in connection with this contest and to further use their names and biographical information in promotional materials without further compensation or permission, except where prohibited by law.
