On the morning of June 10, 2013, there was a fatal car accident in Antioch. The head-on collision involved a car and a truck hauling gravel. At approximately 9:15 a.m., the car traveling eastbound apparently crossed the centerline and struck the westbound truck in a head-on collision. The accident occurred on Route 173, just west of Lake Avenue, in unincorporated Antioch.
The truck driver attempted to swerve to avoid the accident, but was unable to do so. The gravel truck overturned after the initial collision. Unfortunately, the driver of the car, was pronounced dead just before 10:00 a.m. at Centegra Medical Center. The truck driver was released from the hospital with minor injuries, including some stitches. Additional details can be found in the June 10 Chicago Tribune article “Woman killed in crash near Antioch, Route 173 closed” as well as the June 10 Lake County News -Sun article titled “Wisconsin woman dies after collision with gravel truck.”
Unfortunately motor vehicle accidents occur every day in Lake County. Summer is high season for construction, which requires that drivers stay alert and take extra caution to avoid an accident.
