Salvi, Schostok & Pritchard P.C., cautions drivers about '100 feet of terror' along I-94

CHICAGO (Salvi Law) – According to the Chicago Tribune, eight people were injured Monday evening in a multi-vehicle accident involving a semi-truck on westbound I-94, just south of Grand Avenue.

A total of six people were sent to Advocate Condell Medical Hospital in Libertyville with minor injuries, one in critical condition, and an eighth was transported to Vista Medical Center East in Waukegan with minor injuries. According to the Chicago Tribune, there was extensive, heavy damage to the vehicles. The Illinois State Police is investigating the cause of the crash.

GURNEE (October 29, 2012) – With offices in Waukegan and Chicago, I travel Interstate 94 almost daily. Over the years I’ve seen my fair share of distracted drivers, speeders, those who appear under the influence… and accidents too numerous to count.

Those of you who have traveled northbound on Interstate 94 and have tried to exit onto Grand Avenue westbound (near the eastbound exit to Six Flags Great America) have probably experienced what I consider one of the most dangerous sections of roadway on the Interstate here in Lake County. With the westbound Grand Avenue exit approaching, cars/trucks traveling well above the posted 65-mph speed limit frequently attempt to ‘skip ahead’ in the line by making a last minute cut in front of those of us who have been preparing our turn. The effect causes the line of cars to slam on their breaks, or veer out of the lane into other traffic.

Unfortunately, in addition to those exiting the Interstate, you’re also forced to compete with the steady stream of cars/trucks entering the Interstate the from Grand Avenue. The dangerous are increased when road conditions are not ideal.

I refer to it as “a hundred feet of terror,” especially during rush hour.

According to the Daily Herald this morning, three people were injured in a two-vehicle crash on westbound Interstate 94 near Gurnee Saturday morning. Thankfully the injuries were not life-threatening and all were transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.

It’s really incredible that more people have not been injured or killed there over the years due to impatient, reckless, or distracted drivers. It is a good reminder, however, that we all need to be very mindful and curious when approaching that tricky and dangerous section of roadway.
