It’s being able to speak for people who, otherwise, wouldn’t have a voice.
My name is Andrew Burkavage, and I’m an Associate at Salvi, Schostok & Pritchard.
You know, at first, I don’t think I knew why I wanted to become a lawyer. Once I started in law school, I think I figured out that I wanted to be a voice for the people that, otherwise, didn’t have a voice in the legal system. It’s kind of humbling. It’s a pretty powerful thing. There are a lot of people out there, regular folks who are injured, who don’t have a voice in the legal system, and that’s where I feel like I can help people, because I have that voice and I’m able to speak on their behalf.
I met a great family, the son of whom had been bitten by a dog, and he was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. And so, actually getting to meet the family and getting to help the family, and to be the attorney for them that was helping him through a really difficult time, was really rewarding and made the whole thing worthwhile.
I can talk to clients pretty openly, and pretty candidly, and pretty honestly about their case, and I can relate with them about whatever issue it is that they’re going through. We have to talk with clients about very uncomfortable situations, and so, I do my best to, you know, to be human for them, to let them know that, you know, I’m a person just like they are, and we all have our uncomfortable situations that we have to deal with.
I think everyone here is fantastic. The firm, itself, has such a great reputation within the city, as well as in the State of Illinois. Everyone here is just so hard-working.
