What Is Chicago’s Skydeck?

Skydeck Chicago provides a breathtaking view to our great city’s residents and visitors. Located 103 floors up the world-famous Willis Tower, Skydeck features unforgettable views that span 50 miles on a clear day. You can enjoy a 30-60 minute Chicago experience before you visit Skydeck where you hear about the rich history of Skydeck and Willis Tower, formerly the Sears Tower and the second tallest building in the Western Hemisphere.  

What’s the Best Time of Year to Visit the Chicago Skydeck?

According to the Skydeck website, the best time to visit the Chicago Skydeck is just after opening or after sunset. They recommend arriving at Skydeck 30 to 45 minutes before sunset. You can check the time for sunset every day.

Ticket Prices for Chicago Skydeck

General admission tickets to Skydeck are currently $28 to $35 for individuals aged 12 and up and $22 to $26 for youth ages 3 to 11. Children under 3 are free. A general admission ticket includes access to the elevator ride to the Skydeck and The Ledge, which are glass floor balconies 1,353 feet over Chicago. Expedited entry admission tickets currently cost $55.

  • Willis Tower stands 1,450 feet and is 110 stories tall. 
  • You can see four states from the Skydeck on a clear day, Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, and Michigan.
  • Willis Tower features 16,100 bronze-tinted windows.
  • Robots clean the windows. Six roof-mounted robotic window washers clean all those windows!
  • The elevators at Willis Tower that take you to Skydeck are some of the fastest in the world. 
  • Skydeck is the highest public viewing area in the U.S.
  • The Ledge can hold 10,000 pounds.
  • About 25,000 people enter Willis Tower every day. 
  • Approximately 1.7 million tourists visit Skydeck each year. 
  • The Ledge’s iconic glass boxes extend out 4.3 feet from Skydeck. Each of the boxes weighs 7,500 pounds. 
  • The Ledge’s boxes’ thin film over the top layer of glass helps ensure a clear view straight down. 
  • The Ledge uses heat tracing to melt snow off the glass.
