Two Fatal Chicago Construction Accidents in 3-Day Span

Over a recent weekend in Chicago, two men were killed in two separate construction accidents, illustrating just how dangerous construction work can be.

The first accident happened when a man working at a site on 62^nd and May was trapped in a paving machine.

“I was inside the house and heard screaming,” said a witness to the accident. “He was trying to kick the rocks under the machine and it hooked to his pants leg and drug him up under there.”

The victim, who has not been named by the local press, worked for GA Paving.

In the second accident, a construction worker was crushed between two vehicles while working in the 200 block of North Washtenaw Avenue. Details are limited, but the 47-year-old worker was pronounced dead at Mount Sinai Hospital. An autopsy is planned, though a spokesperson for the Chicago Police Department says the man’s death appears to be a “tragic accident”.

Each of the men had families who expected their loved ones to arrive home unharmed after a day’s work. Unfortunately, both families are now grieving—something that happens far too often in the construction industry.
