Chicago area sees dangerous weekend on the roads

LAKE COUNTY, Ill. (Salvi Law) – Several serious crashes were reported in the Chicago area over the weekend, serving as a reminder that summer can be a very dangerous time of year on the roads. The crashes occurred in McHenry County, Cook County, and Lake County.

The most recent crash occurred on Route 53 in Rolling Meadows. According to a report from the Daily Herald, two people were taken to the hospital with minor injuries as a result of the rollover crash. The crash closed several lanes of Route 53 while emergency crews responded to the crash.

On Sunday morning, a 33-year-old woman was found dead after a single-vehicle crash along Route 12 in Spring Grove. Police are still investigating the cause of the crash.

In Chicago, a male bicyclist was struck by a train Sunday evening near South Narragansett and West 59th in the city’s Garfield Ridge neighborhood. A witness told ABC 7 they could hear the train’s horn and brakes as it approached the bicyclist. As of Monday morning, the victim was listed in critical condition.

Also Sunday, Seven people, including three children, were hospitalized with serious injuries after a crash on the Dan Ryan Expressway. The crash occurred around 2:30 p.m. in the inbound lanes near 79th Street, according to a report from ABC 7. Police officials believe alcohol may have been a factor in the crash and say the driver of an SUV lost control of the vehicle and hit a wall. As of Monday morning, no one had been charged in the crash.
