Statement: Highland Park shooter sentenced to life in prison without parole

Attorney Lance D. Northcutt Speaking After Today's Sentencing

WAUKEGAN, Ill. (April 24, 2025) – On Thursday, April 24, 2025, Robert Crimo III was sentenced to seven life sentences in prison without parole for the 2022 Fourth of July shooting that left seven people dead and many more injured.

Salvi, Schostok & Pritchard attorney Lance D. Northcutt represents the surviving toddler of parents Kevin and Irina McCarthy, who were both killed in the shooting. Following the sentencing, Mr. Northcutt issued the statement below:

Today is the beginning of accountability for the heartless criminal who pulled the trigger and marks the end of one chapter in the saga for the victims and families who were affected by this tragedy. Caught in the middle of this chaos and terror was an innocent 2-year-old boy who was robbed of his parents in the most brutal, bloody fashion imaginable. The Highland Park community will be forever marred by the evil of one man that was enabled by others. Today, Judge Rosetti did everything she could possibly do within the context of the criminal court system. But there is more left to do. While true justice could never be done in this case, the civil justice system will now pick up to make sure that we hold accountable all those parties who had any role whatsoever in the tragedy that occurred on July 4, 2022.

During the hearing, which began Wednesday in Lake County Court, a Highland Park mother, who attended the parade with her own children, described the chaos and horror she witnessed in the moments following the shooting. As she held a terrified 2-year-old Aiden McCarthy, he kept repeating the words “Mama and Dada come find me soon.”

Mr. Northcutt is available to discuss Crimo’s sentence and his client’s civil suit in more detail. Please contact Marcie Mangan at (312) 372-1227 or mmangan@salvilaw.com to schedule an interview.
