Cook County jury awards $20.5 million to young girl who died due to morphine toxicity while in remission from leukemia

CHICAGO (June 11, 2025) – The family of an 11-year-old Northwest Indiana girl who died from morphine toxicity after being treated at a suburban cancer center was awarded $20.5 million by a Cook County jury Tuesday. Ava Wilson, who was in remission from a form of leukemia, went to an appointment at the Cancer Center at Advocate Children’s Hospital in October of 2020.
