Salvi, Schostok & Pritchard P.C., statement on Governor Rauner’s Sterigenics call to action

CHICAGO (October 3, 2018) – Tuesday, Governor Bruce Rauner joined a chorus of elected officials calling for the shutdown of the Willowbrook Sterigenics International facility co-owned by his former private equity firm. The Governor’s statement came hours after the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency asked the Attorney General’s office to temporarily shut down the plant until the federal EPA conducts more air testing to confirm cancer risks.

Salvi, Schostok & Pritchard P.C., released the following statement about the Governor’s call to action Wednesday morning:

“Our firm is pleased the Governor has finally acknowledged how dangerous and deadly Sterigenics’ wrongful conduct has been for this community. No other person or family should have to go through the health ordeals that many of our clients have suffered because of this company’s intentional emission of a deadly carcinogen. While the Governor’s call to action is a bit tardy, in our opinion, we are glad the cries of the community have been heard and hope this serves as a major step in shutting down this plant that has already caused so much damage.”

Salvi, Schostok & Pritchard has filed multiple lawsuits and represents numerous clients whose lawsuits are pending against Sterigenics and other defendants for knowingly emitting the cancer-causing toxin ethylene-oxide into the air for decades. The firm’s clients are represented by attorneys Patrick A. Salvi II, Patrick A. Salvi, Andrew J. Burkavage, Heidi L. Wickstrom, and John A. Mennie.
