Statement on the shut down of Willowbrook Sterigenics plant

Patrick A. Salvi II of Salvi, Schostok & Pritchard has issued a statement after the Illinois Environment Protection Agency ordered the Sterigenics plant in Willowbrook be immediately sealed after tests showed “extreme daily fluctuations” in ethylene oxide levels:

The Illinois EPA’s seal order is an important step in holding Sterigenics accountable for their reckless negligence that has resulted in the needless poisoning of residents. While nothing can undo the harm Sterigenics has caused this community for decades, we find comfort knowing our clients and their neighbors are no longer being exposed to this dangerous gas.

We applaud the community members, lawmakers, and our fellow attorneys who have tirelessly fought for this cause for months on end. We still have a long road ahead of us in holding Sterigenics responsible for their many years of careless disregard for the health of the men, women and children who lived nearby. But today’s action shows hope is not lost and the cries of this community are being heard. We will continue to investigate this matter and seek justice for our clients and their families. Our firm looks forward to traveling to Springfield Tuesday for Citizen Lobby Day to discuss the importance of banning eTo emissions in Illinois forever.

Every day, Salvi, Schostok & Pritchard, along with other prominent Chicago law firms, are fighting to provide support for individuals and families who are suffering from cancer, birth defects and miscarriages among other catastrophic injuries due to the carcinogenic emissions from Sterigenics.
