Brian L. Salvi:
Well, certainly as technology advances and the use of robotics becomes more common in the operating room, it's going to be something that we see in medical malpractice cases more frequently. Some of the considerations that I think about when it comes to robotic use in the operating room, first and foremost, starts with surgeon decision making, because ultimately, even when you're using robotics, surgeon decision making is ultimately what guides outcomes. Unless, of course, you're talking about a circumstance where the equipment or software itself malfunctioned or caused a problem completely separate from what the surgeon is doing. That would obviously be a separate consideration and would probably warrant some sort of product liability case into the manufacturer of the equipment.
